Chalcopyrite Leaching in a Dimethyl Sulfoxide Solution Containing Copper Chloride

Abstract Chalcopyrite (CuFeS 2 ) is the most refractory copper mineral when treated in conventional sulfate media leaching systems. This first study to examine use of a dimethyl sulfoxide (CH 3 SOCH , DMSO) solution containing chloride (CuCl for chalcopyrite. Leaching experiments concentrate composed mainly chalcopyrite were conducted at ambient pressure 313–413 K. The fractions Cu, Fe, S, Au, and As investigated. It was found that 90% Cu extracted h, 94% 4 h 373 K, which competitive with other processes. A DMSO CuCl could selectively dissolve valuable metals Au from chalcopyrite, but leave minerals little economic value such as pyrite (FeS residue. oxidized by cupric ion proportion stoichiometric ratio initial solution, enhanced presence oxygen below
